After a 2 year break due to Covid, SVEA Lodge #253 was back with a cultural booth at the 46th Annual International Festival at the Indiana State Fairgrounds October 13-16. Education played an integral role of the festival. School children received a passport that they could get stamped at each booth as they travelled around the world learning about each country.
The theme this year was ‘Arts and crafts around the world.’ Cultural leaders Hannah Lindgren and Katie Blodgett put together a wonderful display including Dalahorses, hand crafted wooden items including rosemaling, straw ornaments, hand blown glass, tatting and weaving.
Our cultural booth also had poster boards with info on IKEA and the music group ABBA, among other interesting facts about Sweden.
A big hit was the selfie photo booth painted as a country scene with a traditional red cottage. People could accessorize by wearing a Viking helmet, flower wreath, a Pippi Longstocking red wig with plaits, or the Swedish chef’s hat from the Muppets.
Respectfully Submitted,
