September 2023 Meeting

We kicked off our fall meetings on Sunday, September 10 at the Latvian Community Center! First, we had a lot of business to catch up on after the summer break, so we had an hour-long business portion of the meeting.

Some of the biggest news items included the announcement of the International Festival being cancelled, the SVEA Sewing Circle (where members can create their own Swedish folk outfits in a guided course with a sewing instructor), and a callout for a lodge Archivist. We also initiated four new members! Welcome Amy, Thomas, Holly and Lisa.

We then enjoyed a very informative and thought-provoking presentation from IU East professor and SVEA lodge member Daron Olson about Sweden and Swedish-Americans in WWII. There was a lot of discussion during the Q&A! Daron also shared this link to a podcast he was on about vikings.

We finished out the meeting with a delicious fika. Thank you to everyone who donated food and helped in the kitchen.

We'll see you for our next meeting on Sunday, October 1 at the Latvian Community Center, where we'll watch SVEA lodge member Dave Nelson's documentary "Remember the Eastland," followed by a Q&A.
